DESCRIPTION: Agility is a fun event for the dog and handler. Basic control skills are required before beginning agility training. Introduction to Agility is designed to give people a chance to experience agility. This class is not meant to teach any skill to a proficient level. Minimum skills to be explored include: running a dog on both the left and right side; introduction to contacts at a low level; short sequences using jumps at a low level; stay/release/recall; how/when to reward. This class is primarily for people who have not done agility before. With instructor permission, those familiar with agility or training dogs may skip this class and begin with Agility Foundations 1.
PREREQUISITES:
- Dog over 12 months of age
- Physically sound and able to run and jump
- Completion of Obedience Household 1 or equivalent
- Solid sit stay and/or down stay
- Solid recall when exposed to distractions
- Demonstrates ability to walk on a loose leash
- Willingness to stay in crate without whining or barking
WHAT TO BRING:
- Copy of vaccination records
- Buckle collar
- 4-6 foot leash
- Variety of hard treats (that do not crumble easily)
- Crate for the dog when not working on the course
- Extra pair of clean shoes to be used when training on the turf
