243-523 - AGILITY BEGINNING HANDLING

DESCRIPTION: The skills introduced in Agility Foundations 2 will continue to be covered in Agility Beginning Handling.  New skills to be introduced include: additional crosses (rear, blind); increasing jump heights; short sequences; sequences with contacts or weaves or tunnels. 

 PREREQUISITES:

  • Successful completion of Agility Foundations 2
  • Solid sit stay and/or down stay
  • Solid recall when exposed to distractions
  • Able to perform a front cross 
  • Able to achieve a start line stay 
  • Able to perform a short jump sequence 

 WHAT TO BRING:

  • Buckle collar 
  • 4-6 foot leash
  • Variety of hard treats (that do not crumble easily) 
  • Crate for the dog when not working on the course 
  • Extra pair of clean shoes to be used when training on the turf

243-510 - AGILITY FOUNDATIONS 1 (CONTINUING)

Calendar May 6, 2024 at 7 pm, runs for 6 weeks

DESCRIPTION:  Agility is a fun event for the dog and handler.  Basic control skills are required before beginning agility training. This class helps develop the handler/dog relationship, playing with the dog with/without toys. Minimum skills to be covered include: when/how to reward; motivation and focus in distracting environments; develop jumping skills; exposure to teeter, weaves, tunnel, and tire. The handler/dog need to successfully complete these exercises and safely exhibit the foundations of the class to progress to Agility Foundations 2. If they have not, they should retake Agility Foundations 1.

PREREQUISITES:

  • Dog over 12 months of age
  • Successful completion of Obedience Household 1 or equivalent
  • Successful completion of Introduction to Agility or experienced handler
  • Solid sit stay and/or down stay
  • Solid recall when exposed to distractions
  • Willingness to remain in a crate without whining or barking

 WHAT TO BRING:

  • Copy of vaccination records
  • Buckle collar 
  • 4-6 foot leash 
  • Variety of hard treats (that do not crumble easily) 
  • Crate for the dog when not working on the course 
  • Extra pair of clean shoes to be used when training on the turf

DESCRIPTION: This class is designed for teams competing in or ready to compete in the upper level classes (Excellent/Master). Teams will practice sequences found in Excellent/Master courses and will continue to refine handling skills so that they can successfully perform at the upper levels of agility. 

PREREQUISITES (at least one of the following):

  • Successful completion of Agility Open Level or an Open Agility title
  • Competing at the Excellent or Master level
  • Ready to compete at the Excellent level
  • Instructor approval

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Buckle collar
  • 4-6 foot leash 
  • Variety of hard treats (that do not crumble easily) 
  • Crate for the dog when not working on the course

DESCRIPTION: This class is designed for teams competing in or ready to compete in Novice.  Skills to be covered include: full height jumps and contacts; increasing the length and difficulty of sequences; consistently performing 12 weave poles independently; practicing contacts with the chosen end criteria. 

PREREQUISITES:

  • Successful completion of Agility Maneuvers
  • Solid sit stay and/or down stay
  • Solid recall when exposed to distractions
  • Able to perform full height jumps and contacts
  • Able to successfully complete 12 weave poles 
  • Able perform a multiple obstacle sequence

243-720 AGILITY - FOUNDATION SKILLS FOR YOUNG DOGS

DESCRIPTION:  This is a class focusing on foundation skills that will help a young dog (5-12 months) before they are ready for formal agility training classes.  There will be NO introduction to agilty obstacles (jumps or contacts) in this class.  Rather the class will focus on building foundation skills including: how to reward/reinforce; skills for self-control and motivation; stays and recalls; skills to build confidence; agility related footwork skills; etc.

 

PREREQUISITES:

  • Successful completion of 5-12 Puppy class
  • Puppy must be between 5 - 12 months old on the first day of class
  • Must be up-to-date on vaccinations.  Rabies not required if under 6 months old

WHAT TO BRING

  • Copy of updated vaccination records
  • 4-6 ft leash
  • Buckle collar
  • Variety of soft, easy to eat treats

243-535 - AGILITY OPEN/EXCELLENT LEVEL

DESCRIPTION: This class is designed for teams competing in or ready to compete in Excellent. The class will focus on refining handling skills and will practice sequences found in the upper level classes.

PREREQUISITES:

  • Successful completion of Agility Open Level class,
  • Showing at the Open level or Excellent level
  • Performing full height jumps and contacts
  • Able to successfully complete 12 weave poles
  • Able to perform a full course obstacle sequence

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Buckle collar
  • 4-6 foot leash
  • Variety of hard treats (that do not crumble easily)
